From Copenhagen, Hedo Hydr8 revisits contemporary Danish rap by infusing it with his characteristic experimental club versatility
After a trilogy of EPs showcasing his irresistible body music, the mysterious Danish producer Hedo Hydr8 is back with an unstoppable pack of rap edits entitled HOMAGE.
Made up of four unofficial tracks, this release rethinks the original titles in new contexts, mainly club, but not only that. We are dealing here with the rereading of the works of two famous Danish rappers: Benny Jamz and Branco. Tinted with the epic, post club universe, oscillating without warning between ambient and rave of Hedo Hydr8, these edits are a solid addition to the already bubbling discography of the producer. Note that this release follows Hedo Hydr8’s (official, please) remix for Witch Club Satan, the latest Norwegian black metal sensation, and we can only bow to such versatility.
Our HOMAGE excerpt is the edit of the track “Flytilstand” by rapper Benny Jamz. Listening now right here, Hedo’s version gets rid of all the dancehall vibe of the original track, to offer a dark track, full of tension and haunted by the club. To the rapper’s repitched voice, Hydr8 adds samples of car sirens, ambient pads, distended gabber kicks and other syncopated percussive patterns. We were also told that the inspirations for this poignant edit ranged from ambient kuduro to Bristol rap to game changer Yeezus.
