And So It Went: the new EP from producer Other Islands, combining introspection and global club sounds, coming soon on Precious Metals
A project between London and Mexico City, at the crossroads of club scenes
And So It Went is the new EP from London-born, Mexico City–based artist Other Islands, released on Precious Metals, run by legendary producer Endgame.
The project bridges UK club traditions with global sound system cultures, from Grime and Jungle to Dembow and Brazilian Funk, while incorporating a lyrical sensibility shaped by both cities.
Written in the heart of Mexico City, the EP captures the city’s temporal tensions—between speed and nostalgia, proximity and distance, movement and memory. Other Islands transforms these urban paradoxes into an immersive sonic narrative where genres fragment, deconstruct, and reassemble.

An immersive sonic aesthetic between raw energy and melancholy
The EP is driven by thundering distorted basslines, fractured breaths, and ghostly vocals, while splintered percussion and unstable melodies surface and recede.
The tracks oscillate between club power and introspection, creating a delicate balance between euphoria and contemplation.
Opening track “Way Out” sets the tone by colliding grime and baile funk within an aerial, melancholic atmosphere, embodying the project’s recurring dualities: light and dark, strength and vulnerability, ecstasy and introspection. “Screen Blur” and “Behind Us” draw on regionally inspired club rhythms, enriched with distorted textures and spectral vocals that explore themes of connection, distance, and memory.
The EP evokes a city seen through glass and headlights, an inverted urban landscape where sound becomes an emotional prism.
CxC PREMIERE: “As Ever”, a key track from the EP
Among the highlights of the project, “As Ever” stands out as one of the EP’s most introspective tracks.
Premiered in our columns, the track explores a more contemplative side of Other Islands’ sound while retaining the rhythmic tension that runs throughout And So It Went.
Carried by atmospheric textures, ethereal vocals, and subtly fragmented production, “As Ever” acts as a breathing space within the EP’s narrative. The track embodies the project’s central duality—between movement and suspension, memory and presence, intimacy and distance.
