CxC PREMIERE: T. Speakman – Easy Does It (hard mix)

Vancouver producer T. Speakman explores melancholic, experimental technoid Bass Music

T. Speakman is a musical artist from East Vancouver. Between 2013 and 2025, while living in Montreal, he organised two editions of the charity compilation Re:Conceive, which were warmly received internationally. His previous projects have led him to open for Tim Hecker, Rob Garza (Thievery Corporation) and Sango, placing his work in experimental and demanding electronic spaces.

Outside of the stage and club scene, T. Speakman has also composed original music for fashion shows, notably for Rad Hourani during Arab Fashion Week S/S 2017 and WRKDEPT at Toronto Fashion Week F/W 2019. His musical DNA draws on Industrial, Techno, Bass Music and Brazilian Funk, shaping a raw, tactile and emotionally restrained sound language.

Now back in Vancouver, he focuses his work on music that reflects the city’s discreet and often overlooked edge — a silent pressure that is felt more than it is expressed. His upcoming EP, Flesh Out, is a clear expression of this vision: uncompromising, physical, and imbued with a current of desire and melancholy.

The press release accompanying the release of Flesh Out describes the universe imagined around the EP: “Night has fallen, blood flows, flesh is raw. Wordless siren voices fill the air as a bitter cold erodes the surface of every sound. What remains: five sonic artefacts, decomposed, gnawed away by digital insects, suspended in a space charged with silent intensity.”

Throughout Flesh Out, the simple pulse of bass music is present, but openly marked by sadness and loss. The rhythms are physical yet restrained, unruly yet sensual, guided by repetition and erosion rather than explosion. A muted tension runs through the whole, just below the surface, giving the music a hypnotic power and a lingering emotional weight.

At the heart of the project is ‘Easy Does It (Hard Mix)’, a track that crystallises this duality with precision and which we reveal exclusively in this article. Despite what its title suggests, its impact is anything but easy. The rhythm is compact, insistent, almost martial, while the bass pressure builds with controlled force. The textures are abrasive, compressed to the point of fraying, creating constant friction between movement and stillness. The ‘hard mix’ accentuates the angles, pushing the track towards something deeply physical yet fragile, where urgency and restraint coexist.
