The label Matière announces an introspective and hybrid EP by Marseille-based producer NOGE, between corrosive basslines and pop influences
NOGE (for “no generic”) is a producer who “represents the eclecticism and inventiveness of the Marseilles scene with brio”, told us Matière, the label that will release his EP DAMAGE. Drawing his inspiration from styles such as jungle, bass music, garage, or drum n bass, the promising southerner skilfully synthesizes this background through his productions or hybrid mixes.
After a first indie EP sometimes evoking a James Blake who would have taken a lo-fi gabber turn, and a recent mix for Radio FG, via his collective Pata Negra Loves U, NOGE will release his new EP DAMAGE on Matière. At the crossroads of musical influences, introspective and perhaps even cathartic, the EP’s narrative thread is “the damage we take in the course of our lives”, and its various forms of influence on the creative process.
Before the release, the label entrusted us with the track “PRETENDヽ( ・ω・)ノ”, which you can listen to today in our columns. For a little more than four minutes, the Marseille native presents a range of inspirations as unexpected as coherent. He mixes dancefloor, pop, and more experimental elements. After an introduction tinged with robotic drills and trance progressions, we find ourselves catapulted, without really knowing how in the middle of a rhythmic tidal wave that reminds us of the speed dembow of Amor Satyr and Siu Mata.
Pre-order DAMAGE by NOGE on Bandcamp, official release on May 5th via Matière. Release party on April 28th at Makeda in Marseille.
