Deena Abdelwahed materializes the collaborative and borderless spirit of her album Jbal Rrsas with an EP of remixes to be released on InFiné
Last September, Tunisian producer and DJ Deena Abdelwahed released Jbal Rrsas جبل الرصاص, her brilliant second album on the Parisian label InFiné. Following the more than enthusiastic reception it received, notably from national (Télérama, Les Inrocks…) and international (The Guardian, The Quietus, RA, Pitchfork…) reference platforms, the label and the producer have decided to continue the adventure with an EP of remixes to be released next week.
On Jbal Rrsas Remixes, Deena invited three artists to revisit a song each, highlighting the collaborative and borderless spirit that permeates the original album. Thus, the Lebanese Australian DJ Plead – already featured on Nervous Horizon, AD 93 and even Livity Sound – infuses the song “Violence for Free” with his technoid darbouka samples; a remix already available on all platforms. 33EMYBW, an iconic artist from Shanghai’s experimental club scene affiliated with the SVBKVLT label, will deliver a deconstructed IDM version of “Pre Island”. Finally, Italian producer and DJ Ehua – resident on Rinse FM, released on Nervous Horizon or Fabric Records – revisits the track “Complain”, which we are happy to unveil today in this article. On her remix, the member of the Roman collective GRIOT increases the rhythmic power of the original track by infusing it with unstoppable UK breakbeats influences.
Particularly involved in the choice of remixers, Deena Abdelwahed explains in the press release: “These are three artists whose tracks I often play during my DJ sets. I know their sounds well, and I particularly appreciate their sense of innovation when it comes to club music”.
Deena Abdelwahed will present Jbal Rrsas live at the Gaîté Lyrique in Paris this Thursday, February 15, with a DJ set by Ehua as the opening act, take your tickets here.
