Gqom and Amapiano meet percussive British Techno on Scottish producer Drumheller’s next EP coming to Funky Adjacent
Drumheller is a rising Glasgow producer. His style is characterized by the composition of ultra-effective rhythmic patterns, inspired by percussive sequences from the four corners of the planet. With his first EP released in 2021 on Jamz Supernova’s excellent Future Bounce label, Drumheller was able to immediately position himself as an artist to follow.
His next release is entitled Paprika/Standoff and will be released on Funky Adjacent, a newly launched London label dedicated to celebrating the “grey area between UK funky and percussive genres from around the world”. A label which corresponds impeccably to the directive line of the 2-tracker from Drumheller in question, because for this release, the Scotsman did not hesitate to dig into the side of Amapiano or even Gqom to infuse his club music, like the title “Paprika” that we are revealing today in our columns. In this song, the producer rethinks the characteristic elements of South African genres (jerky vocals, clunk bass) on a backdrop of English techno punctuated with breaks and other groovy rhythmic passages.
Find Drumheller every third Saturday on Reprezent Radio and Funky Adjacent every beginning of the month on Ajaa community radio.
Pre-order Paprika/Standoff by Drumheller, released December 14 on Funky Adjacent.
