For its new compilation, Czech label Markham Road Records explores kinetic, percussive club music
Markham Road Records is an electronic music label based in the Czech Republic. It aims to explore the different facets of percussive club music, from the most heard to the most experimental. After its first ‘various artists’ compilation last October – featuring Kaval and Beatrice M, among others – and a solo release by Count, the label is about to release its second compilation, soberly entitled MR003.
Formed by a percussion quator made up of atch22, Count, Rizla Ops and Teqmun, movement is the guiding principle of this new compilation. Each producer brings his rhythmic arsenal and approach, giving MR003 its diversity and complementarity.
Ahead of the release, Markham Road Records commissioned us to release Rizla Ops‘ track ‘Cortex’. The label fell in love with the track as soon as it received the first demo sent by the London-based producer, and the result lives up to expectations. The artist told us a little more about his track: “The triplet snare is locked in by a big roomy kick that squares it into that tool-y club space I notice my recent productions are exploring. Cortex finds its name in the buzzy bitcrushed bass that draws from ghosty drill, loose audio jack and ASMR machinery that buries itself in the cranium.” What we have here, then, is a circular movement whose percussive work evokes an abstraction of Brazilian Funk, revisited, looped and ready to take control of the dance floor.
Pre-order MR003 by Markham Road Records on Bandcamp, out on 28 April.
