Rolo Gallardo and Tribillin Sound invite a promising line-up of club artists to remix classics by legendary Peruvian singer Arturo Zambo Cavero
Arturo ‘Zambo’ Cavero, is one of the most important and admired voices in Peruvian Afro-Creole music. Born in Lima in 1940, Cavero is a veritable national icon who has spread Peruvian music and culture worldwide with his moving interpretations of songs such as ‘Y Se Llama Peru’ and ‘Contigo Peru’.
In 2019, Peruvian electronic hybrid sound pioneer Tribillin Sound was teaming up with tropical musician and composer Rolo Gallardo to produce Proyecto Zambo, an album reinterpreting 9 Zambo classics accompanied by guests from the current scene, including Dengue Dengue Dengue.
Zambo Remixes follows on from this project, this time remixing tracks from Proyecto Zambo by a team of contemporary club producers. On this album, Arturo ‘Zambo’ Cavero’s samples, loops and vocals have been used as raw material for 9 tracks designed for the dancefloor, inking the legendary Peruvian voice at the heart of today’s global club movement. Remixes by Yuyos Sound, Lukrø & Vitu Valera, Jeaneiffel, Eli Lamore & Thomas Young, Qechuaboi, Africó Sounds, Vudufa, Tribillin Sound and Alvaro Isla.
Our pre-release extract is the remix by compadres Lukrø & Vitu Valera. The two Matraca label associates have taken on the track ‘Ruperta’, transforming the original into an unstoppable Brazilian funk mutant with a lot of work on the rhythm section. Afro-Peruvian percussion blends with the club vibes of the global dancefloor that the two artists know so well!
Mastering by Taso (Teklife).
