Royo is back on his new Club South label, determined to bring the club sound of the southern U.S. to dance floors the world over
A few months after the synthetic and exhaustive The Lost Tapes, the Houston-based producer Royo is set to release Southern Club Vol. 2, the follow-up to the first volume released at the end of 2023, indirectly heralding the future Club South label. Composed of 2 edits, a screwed version and a previously unreleased track, this new pack celebrates Southern club traditions with a contemporary twist and Royo’s ever-sensitive approach. Short (around 2 min.), the 4 tracks are bursting with energy and assert, via a host of symbolic elements, the identity of the Southern label. With choppy vocal gimmicks, soulful samples, amen breaks, Baltimore beats and a screwed version to boot, there’s no doubt that Club South has its say in today’s club scene.
Built on a solid foundation honoring Southern heroes, the track “Higher”, which we unveil today in our editorial columns, samples legendary rapper Scarface (Geto Boys), while “Htown” pays tribute to the late Beatking, who left a few weeks ago. With “LVE ME, LVE U”, Royo signs a sweet, club-ready original production. Unbeatable.
Pre-order Southern Club Vol. 2 by Royo on Bandcamp. Out on October 4.
