Kema & Moreit present their EP Trueque: a percussive journey between the Midwest and Barcelona, coming soon on Agua de Rosas
Midwest producers Kema and Moreit unveil Trueque, a four-track EP featuring three original cuts and a remix by Phran, a Venezuelan artist based in Barcelona. The release comes via Agua de Rosas, a label dedicated to forward-thinking electronic sounds and cultural cross-pollination.
Written between Iowa City, Minneapolis, and Chicago, Trueque explores fast tempos and percussive frameworks with precision and intensity. The EP stands as a bold sonic statement, grounded in raw dancefloor energy and rhythmic experimentation that defines both artists’ approaches.
Unveiled exclusively on Couvre x Chefs, “XXXL” hits with explosive intensity at 165 BPM, driven by a piercing vocal sample and Kema’s signature swing-infused groove. The track embodies the tension and velocity that run through Trueque, while drawing clear inspiration from footwork’s syncopated rhythms and kinetic pulse — a direct nod to the musical legacy of Chicago, where part of the EP was conceived. Blending elements of hardgroove, breakbeat, and footwork textures, “XXXL” breaks away from rigid 4/4 structures to create a fluid, unpredictable rhythmic mechanism, perfectly crafted for peak-time club moments.
As for the rest of the EP, the tracks “Maravilla” and “Sacude” maintain that rhythmic tension, deeply rooted in Moreit’s world. His fusion of Raptor House and hardgroove yields a hypnotic flow and sustained energy built for the dancefloor. On remix duty, Phran flips “Sacude” into a groovier, tighter burner, layering extra percussion and low-end weight to add new rhythmic depth to the original composition.
