Gipsyan delivers a mystical debut EP for the Montpellier label Contre Jour Records
Gipsyan is a producer, DJ and radio host (Piñata Radio) based in Montpellier. With influences combining reggaeton, dancehall, gqom, dubstep, leftfield bass, juke and even Baltimore club, Gipsyan is part of a national scene of artists energetically wearing the colors of club music.
After titles released by Monstart, [re]sources, Hotel Radio Paris, HTS, or even on the recent joint compilation Nehza XIII, the Montpellier native is preparing to release his first solo EP on Contre Jour Records.
Entitled Zone, this project is intended to be a reflection of the producer’s life experience, and more particularly, of his different states of mind over the last four years. Zone is an EP that the author describes as mystical, and which will find its place among the catalog of the Occitan “family label”.
Before the release of the EP, we have the pleasure of broadcasting the eponymous track, which can be listened to today in our columns. “Zone” represents a mental state of oscillation between concentration and reverie, but without ever straying too far from the dancefloor, a bit like the artist’s sets which aim to “unleash and create nostalgia among the dancer”. For a little over four minutes, the relatively dark track builds a powerful and catchy narrative, rearranging breaks, gqom and even juke influences.
Pre-order Zone by Gipsyan on Bandcamp, released via Contre Jour Records on October 4, 2023.
