RIP TXNY is a Chilean producer and DJ who is part of this new generation of artists who constantly redefine the codes of Latin American music. DJ and composer for the new reggaeton queen Tomasa Del Real, with whom, and with a strong team of contributors from the continent (and even from Europe), they define themselves as neoperreo, a “reboot” of classic reggaeton, influenced by dope global “post-internet”. Between two dates in Mexico where he lives now, a recording session in Los Angeles, and before an imminent European tour, about which we will soon give you news about, RIP TXNY took the time to deliver an exclusive mixtape: Neoperreo Mix #1, and gave us an interview where he told us more about the neoperreo movement.
CxC | What is neoperreo and how was the project born?
RIP TXNY | I felt the need for a 21st century “cultural reboot”; there was a lack of space for new generations.
I think there was a need for a platform where different artists could work together. Perhaps the musical idols of the last century no longer represent the current audience. We needed a hashtag, a new trend, a style, and so on.
I think neoperreo is the new wave of club music that is developing across the Internet. Today’s artists are very present on the web, and they have grown up with the classical genres of Latin music but there is also another musical side; a more decontextualized perspective, mixed and in constant development.
Fortunately, I see that people understand and find themselves in the project, because we use social networks to promote parties that take place around the world, releases that have the same vision … we also produce events, we do programming, tours, clips with a clean world, collaboration, etc.
Some of the artists of the continent part of #neoperreo are BrunOG of Mexico, Missil of Paraguay, Dj Sustancia of Argentina, Lizz and Jamez Manuel of Chile.

When did you start mixing and composing and what are your musical backgrounds today?
About 3 years ago, I started seriously the musical project RIP TXNY, as a DJ and producer and eventually as a producer.
I published 2 EPs: Deep Weeb (2017), Post Inet Vol. 1 (2018), as well as some mixes on my SoundCloud. I also have some productions on Spotify among which “TOTO” by Tomasa Del Real, present on his last album “Bellaca del año” (2018).
I have also played in incredible events such as “Hyperreality” in Austria or “Cabuland” in Monterrey, Mexico, with Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, etc.
It’s been two years since it moves a lot!

What can you tell us about your “Neoperreo Mix #1”?
I made this mix with a lot of affection, there are exclusive pieces as well as singles that were sent to me by producers from Peru, Mexico, Puerto Rico, USA, Chile and France to contribute to the project and try to reflect the #neoperreo scene of the moment.
I also included some edits made especially for this set as well as some “nostalgic” pieces of my childhood. I hope that you will like!
What are your next projects?
I am currently promoting “Amor De Cali”, a four-track EP that we composed in Los Angeles at Kinkon Records with Chilean singer Ricci Motora in collaboration with the producer and genius El Licenciado of the Kinky group. The EP includes collaborations with Longevity, DJ Blass, BrunOG, Roberto Rodriguez and has been available since June 15 on all digital platforms.
In September, we plan with Tomasa De Real <3 a tour in Europe to spread the good word. We hope to play in France and make a Neoperreo there;) [Author’s note : we announce the dates soon!]

CxC | ¿Cómo nace Neoperreo y cómo lo definirias?
RIP TXNY | Siento que nace por la necesidad de un reboot cultural en el siglo 21; faltaba un espacio para las nuevas generaciones.
Creo que urgía una plataforma donde diferentes artistas pudieran trabajar entre sí. Tal vez los ídolos musicales del siglo pasado ya no representan al publico y se hacia vital un hashtag, una nueva tendencia, un estilo, etc.
Creo que Neoperreo es la nueva ola de música club bailable que crece gracias a internet. Es así como se mezclan en la web artistas que se criaron con los géneros clásicos de la musica latina y están gestionando otra faceta musical; una perspectiva descontextualizada, mestiza y en constante desarrollo.
Felizmente veo que la gente entiende y se refleja con el proyecto, gracias a que hemos dispuesto las redes para promocionar fiestas alrededor del mundo, lanzamientos musicales con esta vision, Produccion de eventos, curatorías musicales, giras, videos, colaboraciones, etc.

¿Cuando empezaste a tocar / producir y cual es tu recorrido hasta la fecha?
Ya hace unos 3 años decidí ofrecer algunas propuestas musicales Bajo RIP TXNY cómo DJ y ya eventualmente cómo productor.
He lanzado 2 Eps: Deep Weeb (2017) y Post Inet instrumentales vol1 (2018) + unos cuantos Mixes en mi Soudcloud y un par de producciones en #Spotify entre esas “TOTO” single de Tomasa del real, que está en su último disco “Bellaca del año” (2018) .
También he tocado en escenarios increibles cómo el “Hyperreality” en Austria o en el “Cabuland” de Monterrey, en México, con Daddy yankee, J Balvin, etc.

¿Que nos puedes contar del mix que hiciste?
Este mix que hice con mucho cariño cuenta con musica exclusiva cómo también singles que me enviaron productores de Perú, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Usa, Chile y Francia para aportar al proyecto y que trata de reflejar la escena #neoperreo del momento. También incluí algunos edits hechos especialmente para el Dj set y algunas nostalgias musicales de mi infancia. ¡Espero que les guste!
¿Qué mas se viene para ti?
Ahora me encuentro promocionando “Amor De Cali” Ep de 4 canciones que trabajamos en Los Angeles, USA en @kinkonrecords con el cantante Chileno Ricci Motora en conjunto con el productor y genio El licenciado de la banda Kinky. El Ep cuenta con colaboraciones de Longevity, Dj Blass, Brunog, Roberto Rodriguez que ya está disponible desde el 15 de junio en todas las plataformas digitales #AmorDeCali.
Pronto, en Septiembre, tenemos planeado con Tomasa del Real <3 recorrer Europa nuevamente predicando la palabra. Ojalá visitar Francia pronto y hacer un Neoperreo ;) [NDLR Anunciamos las fechas pronto!]
